idle hands

I need a new hobby (says the insane person who regularly steals precious moments from her night’s sleep to get everything done).

It has to be something I can pretty much do with my eyes closed. I used to knit while watching TV, which was the perfect balance of multitasking and zoning out.

I read one book every five or six weeks for book club. I’d read more, but I rarely get through a page in the evening without passing out.

I’d love to get back into scrapbooking, but it’s the mess that I hate. Scraps of paper and tools of the trade everywhere. It was one thing when I could leave it spread across the dining room table for a week at a time, but that would be a short-order recipe for disaster these days.

Ultimately, cooking and cleaning tend to be my biggest spare-time fillers. And that’s fine by me. I can sleep well knowing the house isn’t a wreck and meals are planned in advance.

I’ve tried my hand at gardening. I have two reasonably healthy plants on the windowsill above my kitchen sink, and I’m a firm believer in quitting while you’re ahead.

I’m planning to learn to crochet, but I’m not in the mood to learn something. I just want to do. For today, I’ll continue to be one of those people who pins instead of does (which, incidentally, is something I can definitely do on the couch, in front of the TV, while totally zoning out).
